How To Stop Message Requests On Facebook

With the current Facebook version, you’re able to put restrictions on who can send you friend requests, but not on who can send you messages. You could do this in previous versions of Facebook, but not any more. Instead, messages from strangers will appear as message requests.

Since these requests do not show up in the main page on Messenger - you have to actively click on “message requests” to see them - I presume Facebook’s reasoning went something like: “Message requests are really easy to ignore, so why have an option to stop all of them”.

Now I’m not sure how many message requests you get, but what can help reducing the amount is:
Going to Settings -> Privacy and setting “Do you want search engines outside of Facebook to link to your profile” to “No”.

This makes it a bit harder to find you on Facebook
Give Facebook feedback on this by going to Give Us Feedback About a Facebook Feature and describing your issue

There’s no guarantee you’ll get a reply, but Facebook encourages feedback like this.

After all, you’ll have to ignore the message requests - but ignoring them shouldn’t be very hard to do

To stop message request from strangers on Facebook, you should follow the steps given below:—

Step 1: Log in to Facebook and tap on the menu arrow in the top right-hand corner, then choose Privacy Settings.

Step 2: Click on the Edit Settings link next to How You Connect.

Step 3: Adjust the drop-down boxes to reflect the privacy level you desire.

If you are talking about the new message request option on the Messenger App, it is your choice whether to accept message requests or not.

You can check the person who has sent you a message request so, you can accept the request to read the message or ignore it.

Just go to setting on FB app or on webpage from your profile then go to privacy option in it, In that you will find a option named who can send me friend request in that there are two options like everyone and friends of friends. From that section you can select who can send you friend requests.

There is a setting for that, however, it doesn't work exactly like it should. Keep in mind that Facebook makes money off of you, you're their product and if they allowed you to stop letting people connect with you, they have nothing to sell.

Block Messages, Friend Requests from Strangers on Facebook

One of my female friends decided against using her personal photo as her Facebook display picture. Instead, she used some abstract images to fill up the space. When I asked her the reason behind it, she told me that whenever she puts up her personal profile pic her Facebook account is flooded with friend requests and messages from complete strangers. Needless to say she’s a pretty girl.

This wasn’t a one-off case. When I asked some of my other friends (girls) if they faced a similar problem, most of them told me that they are fed up with guys stalking them on Facebook.

I did some research on Facebook privacy settings and discovered a feature in Facebook that could help my friends. This particular Facebook feature does not hide our profile from complete strangers but restricts their intrusion to a bare minimum. Read on to know how to implement these restrictions.
Blocking Strangers on Facebook

Step 1: Log in to your Facebook account and open Privacy Settings from the drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the screen.

Step 2: In Privacy Settings, look for the option How you connect and click on the link Edit Settings. Here you can control how you connect with people on Facebook.

Step 3: If you don’t want people to find you using your name, email address and phone number change the Who can look you up using the email address or phone number you provided? to friends of friends. If the friends request and Facebook messages are bugging you, change Who can send you friend requests? and Who can send you Facebook messages? to friends of friends.

You can also go ahead and select only friends but then your profile will be too restricted and not even a mutual friend of a friend will be able to send you friend requests.

Finally save the settings and make the changes permanent. From now on, you can put any display pic you would like without the concern of strangers sending your spam messages and requests.

Note: Recently Facebook has made mandatory that the profile picture of each user should be public but that shouldn’t be too much of a concern if you have the above privacy settings in place.

Facebook has new tools to prevent unwanted friend requests and messages
Facebook, like every social media platform, has issues with harassment and bullying. In order to prevent certain types of harassment, Facebook is introducing some new features to help prevent unwanted friend requests and messages.

“We’ve heard stories from people who have blocked someone only to encounter the same harasser using a different account,” Facebook Global Head of Safety Antigone Davis wrote on Facebook’s blog. “In order to help prevent those bad encounters, we are building on existing features that prevent fake and inauthentic accounts on Facebook.”

Let’s say you block someone and then that person decides to create another account so they can contact you. With these new tools in place, Facebook is aiming to recognize when someone does that and prevent them from sending a message or friend request to you. Facebook is using signals, like IP addresses, to recognize when someone has created a fake or inauthentic account.

“The person who blocked the original account is in control, and must initiate contact with the new account in order for them to interact normally,” Davis wrote.

Facebook has also released a feature to ignore conversations, which disables notifications from the conversation and moves the conversation into your filtered messages folder.

Once in the filtered messages folder, you can read the conversation without the sender being able to know if you’ve read it. This is currently available for one-on-one messages and will be available for group messages soon, according to the blog post.

Facebook says it has worked with experts in a variety of fields to offer safety resources for people on Facebook. In the blog post, Davis said the company has worked with the National Network to End Domestic Violence and worked to learn more about the experiences of journalists on Facebook.

Rick’s answer: Hanna, Facebook used to allow you to block messages from non-friends, but no longer. They recently changed it to where anybody can message any other Facebook user, friend or not. The only exception is you can’t send a message to someone that has blocked you.

Depending on your Privacy settings, messages from strangers can now go into a junk mailbox labeled “Other”. While you can no longer block strangers from messaging you directly, you can instruct Facebook to place those unwanted messages in the “Other” folder instead of your Inbox. Here’s how:

1 – Log into your Facebook account.

2 – Click the down arrow that’s located at the right end of the blue bar at the top of the page, then select Settings from the drop-down menu.

3 – Click the Privacy link that’s located in the left-hand column.

4 – Scroll down to the “Who can contact me?” section and click Whose messages do I want filtered into my Inbox?.
