To meet this increase in demand in Asia, more U.S. energy companies are noting a rise in export capacity. Oil and natural gas solutions such as storage silos for frac sand help keep shale gas production at high levels needed to maintain growth. In October, Enterprise Products announced plans to construct an LPG export terminal that will ship 6 million barrels per month while Phillips 66 said it would build an export terminal worth $1 billion to ship 4.4 million barrels per month.
While U.S. LPG exports will mostly be concentrated in Asia, it will likely have to compete with Europe for LPG supplies as U.S. exporters will pay lower shipping costs to send supplies to Europe.
"The high cost of freight to Asian destinations means that the European arbitrage route is more attractive from a logistical point of view and this lends support to our view that U.S. LPG volumes will largely remain within the Atlantic Basin over the coming years," researchers at JBC Energy said in a market report.
