If you go to the page having list of all your friends (on any computer / laptop / similar device) you will see a line that lets you view newer friends or birthdays of friends, and other things. Click on the one that says Followers and you are taken to page that not only tells you how many followers - but who they are.
Facebook gives you option to Follow back
If you want to block anyone in particular that is following you, simply click on their image and select the option to Block them.

First you need to go to settings and allow people to follow you. Once you allow people to follow you, you will see the number on your profile page. Just as an FYI followers will only be able to view your public posts.
