Debating whether to lay low and take yoga class or hit the club and get lit this Friday night? Poll your friends on Facebook.
The social network is rolling out a new Polls tool globally on iOS, Android, and the desktop. The tool will let you poll friends (or if you operate a Facebook Page, poll your fans) on any topic you want. You can even add GIFs and photos to bring your polls to life.
In September 2016, Facebook added a polling feature to its Messenger app, and also recently integrated a similar tool into Instagram Stories. Over the years, the social network has offered various forms of polls within the main Facebook app, but for the past several years hasn't provided an easy way for both people and Pages to poll their friends and fans. That changes today.
"Whether it's comparing two of your favorite movies, asking for opinions on which outfit to wear, or polling friends on what photo to use for your next profile pic, the ways you can use polls to gather opinions are endless," a Facebook spokesperson told PCMag in an email.
To try it out, open Facebook and click "What's on your mind" if you're on a profile, or "Write something" if you're posting to a Page. Then, select the "Polls" icon to create a poll, write your question in the status box where it says "Ask a question," and fill in the two options you want people to choose between. From there, you can upload your own images or select a GIF, set when you want your poll to expire, and post your poll. You and everyone who participated in the poll will see how others voted.
The new feature comes after Facebook recently acquired an app focused on positive polling and messaging that is popular with teens.
