Question
How do you totally delete your facebook account?
Community Answer
Although Facebook doesn't like people completely deleting their accounts, you can close your account so no profile data exists. If you'd like to do so, you can follow this guide instead: http://www.wikihow.com/Permanently-Delete-a-Facebook-Account . If you just want to deactivate your account so it is no longer visible, but available should you want to get it back, follow these steps: http://www.wikihow.com/Deactivate-a-Facebook-Account

Question
After changing my new password, how would I save it?
wikiHow Contributor
Community Answer
If you are talking about a button to save your new password, follow the steps above, as they describe the button you'll need to click. However, if you are wondering where you should write it down so you don't forget it later, hold off on saving it in a place where others could get ahold of your information. If you write a list that isn't visible to anyone else and is under lock-and-key or is stored in a database that contains a password itself, you'll be able to adequately store this password for later retrieval.

How Do I Recover My Facebook Password?
If you've lost your Facebook login password, there are a couple of ways to recover access to your account.
I stupidly forgot my Facebook login password and can’t get on. Now what do I do? Can I have Facebook send it to me?

Unfortunately, Facebook won’t email you your password. But that’s a good thing. I would hope that most sites with proper security don’t actually know your password. Instead, they just have a way to know that you’ve typed it in correctly.

You can try two approaches: the official way and the … well, the not-so-official way. Even if you don’t use the not-so-official way, you should know about it because it actually represents a possible security threat.

Facebook login password reset

Just below the login password entry field on Facebook’s sign-in page is a link:

Click that and you’ll be taken to a page containing something like this:

The first step is to enter the distorted words presented in the CAPTCHA. This is used to prevent automated hacking attempts by “proving” that you’re human.

Then, enter the email address you use to login to Facebook or your mobile phone number as registered in your Facebook account, and press Continue. Facebook will then ask for final confirmation:

After pressing Reset my password, Facebook presents the next step in the process:

Sure enough, you should find a message like this in your email after a short time:

In this example, I’ll take the confirmation code that was presented in that email (1089b2b8 in this example, yours will be different), enter it into the last page that Facebook presented above, press Submit, and:

Because I confirmed that I am the rightful owner of the account by accessing the email associated with the account, Facebook now allows me to set my own new password.

That’s the official and proper way to regain access to your account: by proving ownership of the email account (or mobile number, which works similarly) and then setting a new password.
Facebook login password recovery

If you want to recover your existing password, I need to make it clear that you might not be able to do this.

That being said, if you’ve had your browser remember the password for you, it might be frighteningly easy.

I’ll use Firefox as my example.

Click Tools, Options, and then in the Security tab, click the Saved Passwords… button:

This lists all of the sites where Firefox saved your password. You can narrow it down by typing “Facebook” in the Search box as I’ve done here.

Click Show Passwords. After a little extra paranoia:

The Saved Passwords dialog box is updated with an extra column – the actual password – visible for all to see:

Naturally, I’ve blurred my password here, but in reality, it’s clear as day.

If you use Internet Explorer, you’ll need to download a separate tool. Nirsoft has several password recovery tools including “IE PassView,” which will expose the passwords saved by Internet Explorer.

All of this assumes that you’ve allowed your browser to save your passwords for you. If you have not, then this technique will not work.

If you allow your browser to save passwords, anyone with access to your machine can perform the browser password recovery steps outlined above to discover what those passwords are.

Make sure that your machine is secure.

If you can access Facebook anywhere, proceed to step 1a of our article on what to do when your Facebook account got hacked.

Note: If you set up two-factor authentication and have lost access to your Code Generator, here’s how to recover your account.

2. Have You Tried the Default Account Recovery Options Yet

OK, so you could not find a device where you were still logged into Facebook. Let’s proceed with the recovery then. If possible, use a network or computer from which you’ve logged into your Facebook account before.

First, you need to identify your account. Head to the Facebook recover page and use an email address or phone number you previously added to your Facebook account. Even if it doesn’t say so, you can also use your Facebook username.

Once you successfully managed to identify your account, you will see a summary of your profile. Before you proceed, carefully check whether this really is your account and whether you still have access to the email address(es) or mobile phone number(s) listed.

Should you No longer have access to these? proceed to point 3 of this article.

If all looks well with the contact details that Facebook has on file for you, however, click Continue. Facebook will send you a security code. Retrieve it, enter it, and rejoice in having recovered your account.

If the code never arrives, click Didn’t get a code?, which will take you back to the previous Reset Your Password screen. You can try again or maybe you’ll realize that you don’t have access to the account/s after all.

Back Into Your Account

If you managed to regain access to your account and if you suspect that your account was hacked, immediately change your password (use a strong password!) and update your contact information. These are key steps in securing your Facebook account. Be sure to remove any email addresses or phone numbers that are not your own or that you can no longer access.

5 Things You Can Do NOW To Secure Your Facebook Account & Make It Recoverable 5 Things You Can Do NOW To Secure Your Facebook Account & Make It Recoverable To most of us this is the biggest nightmare. We strongly recommend that you enable two-factor authentication, so this won’t happen again.

3. Did Your Contact Information Change?

Often, it’s not possible to recover an account using the options above. Maybe you no longer have access to the email address(es) and phone number(s) you once added to your profile. Or maybe a hacker changed this information. In that case, Facebook allows you to specify a new email address, which they will use to contact you about recovering your account.

To start this process, click the link No longer have access to these? in the bottom left on the reset password page to start the recovery process. Facebook will ask you for a new email address or phone number, so that they can reach out to you if needed. Click Continue to proceed.

If you have set up Trusted Contacts, you will have the chance to use these to recover your account in the next step.

You’ll need to remember at least one full name of your three to five Trusted Contacts to reveal all of them. Note that you only need three codes to recover your account.

If you didn’t set up Trusted Contacts, you might be given the option to answer one of your security questions and reset your password on the spot. As an additional precaution, this comes with a 24 hour waiting period before you can access your account.

Otherwise, you might have to wait until Facebook gets in touch to verify your identity. Be patient!

4. Was Your Account Hacked & Is Sending Out Spam?

In the event that your account was hacked and is posting spam to the walls of your friends while you can no longer access it, you should report your Facebook account as compromised.

This will actually start a similar yet different process as the one outlined above. While you will use the same information to identify your account, in the following step you will be able to use either a current or an old Facebook password to recover your account.

This is useful in case a hacker changed your password, but it may also come in handy in case you forgot your new password.

5. Still Locked Out of Facebook?

If all of the recovery methods above failed, your last hope is Facebook itself. You can try emailing security@facebookmail.com to explain your situation. They might give you a chance to prove your identity using your passport or driver’s license. This can take several weeks, so practice patience.

Note: If you didn’t use your real name on Facebook, your hopes for recovering your account this way are close to zero.

If All Else Fails, Create a New Facebook Profile

Over the past few years, I have received countless comments and messages from people who weren’t able to recover their accounts. Usually, their contact information was outdated, the recovery codes Facebook provided didn’t work, or the company would never reach out to verify their identity. Cant reset my facebook password

Forgotten Password Help
2 ways we recommend that you use if you want to quickly remember your forgotten password.

Way 1: Jogging Your Memory

Sometimes when you have forgotten your password, all you need is a small reminder to remember what you have saved your password as. When you set up an account, for most sites they ask you to set an answer to a question or set a question that you have to answer to remember your password e.g. what’s my mother’s last name? For others they ask you to click all the images with a certain object. The security feature differs with different account providers. This usually works faster as you don’t have to go through the whole process of waiting for an email and clicking the “reset password” link or button in the email. So if you can set an easy question for yourself or something that is hard for you to forget such as digits in your surname would be the best as remembering your password after a few tries will save you lots of time.

Way 2: Resetting & Recovering Your Password

When you have tried the above and failed, resetting your password could be the only option left for you to access your account. This is usually the last resort of which we think is the best way to solve this problem if you are unsure of what your set question may be. Resetting your password will allow you to set a new password for that account via your email. Once you have access to your email, account providers assume that you are the user with authority to reset the password as your email account is something that is very confidential and no one should have access to it except the owner.

So if you are out of guesses, we recommend that you reset your forgotten password and set a new one that you will easily remember. Either you can keep the password in a vault on your mobile device, create a password with something dear to you or create an account online with a password storage provider.

The only thing that may have taken time was reading this article but in the few examples below, if you follow the instructions given by the account provider, fill in the required fields and click on the red rectangles in the images, you will solve this problem quickly. You can use the same tricks that we use here to solve this problem on any other account providers. Be sure to make the new password memorable or upload your new password to the password storage site.
