Occasionally, next to the Add Friend button on someone’s Facebook Timeline, you’ll see an additional button named Follow. Following people on Facebook is a way of getting updates from them in your News Feed without actually becoming their friend. Usually people follow people like journalists or public figures because they don’t really want to expose their posts to someone who, let’s face it, doesn’t really know them.

Following someone is as easy as — actually, it’s easier than — adding someone as a friend. Navigate to that person’s Timeline and click the Follow button. To unfollow her, click that same button (it now says Following) to open a menu of options. Select the Unfollow option (the last item on the menu).

If you’re someone who plans on posting lots of public updates or are a public figure (locally or nationally), you can allow people to follow you instead of becoming your friend (they’ll also be able to add you as a friend, but you won’t have to accept their requests for them to see your posts). Follow these steps to allow people to follow you:

Click the upside-down triangle in the upper-right corner of the big blue bar on top.
A menu of options appears.
Select the Settings option.
The Account Settings page appears, which has a menu running down the left-hand side.
Select Followers from the left menu.
The Follower Settings page appears.
Check the box labeled Turn On Follow.

Congrats! People can now follow your public posts. Once you opt into this feature, more settings appear on the page. These settings allow you to specify how followers can find and interact with your Timeline. This is also where you can connect a Twitter account so your tweets will also be imported to Facebook.

With over 100 languages to choose from, Facebook probably supports your own language so that you can read everything in what's comfortable to you. If you've already changed your Facebook language, you can also read Facebook in English (or any language) again in just a few easy steps.
There are two primary ways to choose a different language for Facebook. If you're on a computer, you can do so from the Language area of your account settings or from the News Feed page. However, if you're using the mobile app, the steps are entirely different between Android and iOS.

One of the fun language options on Facebook is Pirate English. Menus and your labels on various pages will change to the pirate lingo, like "sea dogs" and "wenches" in place of "friends." It will definitely look funny to you but you can rest assured that nobody else can see it unless they, too, change their own language settings.

There are even lots of languages you can choose from that most websites don't support, like Zaza, Malti, Brezhoneg, Hausa, Af-Soomaali, Galego, Basa Jawa, Cymraeg, and upside-down English.

Picking a Different Language to Use on Facebook

It's easy to change the language in which Facebook displays text. Either access the Language Settings page through this link and then skip down to Step 4 or follow these steps in order:

Click or tap the arrow on the far right side of the Facebook menu bar, to the right of the Quick Help question mark.
Select Settings at the bottom of that menu.
Choose the Language tab on the left.
On the very first line, the one that reads "What language do you want to use Facebook in?", select Edit off to the right.
Choose a language from the drop-down menu.
Click or tap the blue Save Changes button to apply the new language to Facebook.

Another way to change the language you see on Facebook is via the News Feed:

Go to your profile's News Feed page, or click here.
Scroll down enough that the menu on the right, between the feed and the chat box, shows a language section. There are popular languages there that you can choose from, like English, Spanish, German, and Portuguese. Click one and confirm it with the Change Language button that appears.
Another option is to click the plus (+) sign to see all of the supported languages. Select a language from that screen to immediately apply it to your Facebook.

If you're using Facebook on a mobile browser, you can change the language from the menu button:

Tap the menu button at the very top right corner.
Scroll all the way down until you reach the very last section of the settings, and then tap Language (the first option that uses two letters as the icon).
Pick a language from the list to immediately change Facebook to that language.

Another place you can change the language for Facebook is if you're using the Android app. Just open the settings and select any language from the list.

Tap the menu button at the very top right corner of the app.
Scroll down toward the bottom of the menu and choose Settings & Privacy
Tap Language in the smaller menu that shows up.
Pick a language from the list.

Note: If you're on an iPhone, you cannot change the language of Facebook through the mobile app. Instead, Facebook uses whatever language your phone is set up to use, so to change it you have to pick a different language for your entire phone. Do this through the Settingsapp via General > Language & Region > iPhone Language.

How to Change the Facebook Language Back to English

Did you change Facebook to a language you don't understand? Don't worry, you can translate Facebook back into English pretty quickly even if you don't understand any of the menus or settings.
One option is to run Facebook through a translator service so that the entire site translates to English on the fly, with the intention of making things a lot easier to read. However, that doesn't always works so great, plus it's not permanent.
The other way to change Facebook to English is to poke around the settings using language-independent directions:

Language Barrier

I just had a computer brought to me– a Windows 7 laptop. The owner said the language on her computer had changed. She mentioned she was on Facebook when it happened, so I turned it on and everything seemed normal. I opened her browser and went into her Facebook account and it was changed to what I discovered was Portuguese.

The hardest part is knowing where to click to fix things. (I’m assuming you can’t read the language enough to get it set back to English.)
How to fix it

If you’re using Chrome, you probably will have no problem if given the option to translate it. Otherwise, do the following:

Sign Into Your Facebook Account

Go Into Your Account Settings. That is the little upside down triangle, and when the menu drops down, it is divided into five sections with gray lines. The Settings option is in the fourth section, third item down.

Click on the Language symbol, blue ball, below the red ball with a white dash in it, and above the world globe.

Then, in the first line, click on the Edit option, whatever language it is in.

Then you get an option to choose your language in the drop-down menu.

Finally, click on the Blue Button, that in English, says Save Changes. It should work immediately.

I had to fix this problem before for someone else. How does this happen? I can only assume this happens when you download an Appand it changes the system settings.
