how to edit my name on facebook

How to Change Your Name on Facebook Without Being Blocked
how to edit my name on facebook
There are times when you may want to change your name on Facebook. Perhaps you’ve outgrown a childhood nickname. Or you’ve gotten married or adopted and want to update your surname. Unfortunately, Facebook is pretty strict about some of its policies, and the “real name” issue is one of them.

If it’s time to change your name on the social network, here’s what to do.
How to change your name on Facebook

On the desktop, tap the downwards-facing arrow in the upper right. Then, select Settings. Under General, you’ll see your name, username (URL), your contact email, and other information. Click Edit next to “Name.” From there, you can enter in a new first, middle, or last name.

On the app, the process is similar. Tap the Settings button, then select Account Settings. From there, tap General. Select the arrow next to your name, and then you can edit your name on Facebook.

Before you attempt this though, you should familiarize yourself with Facebook’s name guidelines. The name you use on Facebook should be “the name that your friends call you in everyday life,” according to Facebook’s Help section. It shouldn’t include a symbol, number, or “unusual capitalization.” It shouldn’t include characters from different languages. It also shouldn’t include a title (so if you’re a proud Dr., Mrs., or Captain, you’ll have to go without). You also can’t use a word or phrase instead of a name or include an offensive or suggestive word. The name should match what’s listed on your ID. However, a nickname is OK as long as it’s a variation of your given name—for example, Chris instead of Christopher.

how to edit ur name on facebook

Facebook requires users to display their real names on their Facebook accounts. When you use a nickname at the office but your formal name on Facebook, it can be difficult for friends, family, clients and co-workers to identify you on the social network. To update your Facebook name to a nickname, access the account settings. A nickname that is a derivative of your real first or middle name can be added to the First or Middle name fields. For example, if your real name is Michael, you can enter “Mike” in your first name field. To include your real name plus a nickname, enter your nickname in the Alternate Name field. Avoid a nickname or alternate name that violates the Facebook Community Standards. Before updating your account, be sure to read Facebook’s policies for names.

Tips

1.Click or tap the “Gear” button on your Facebook account and then click “Account Settings.”

2.Click “General” in the left navigation pane to bring up the General Account Settings. Click or tap “Edit” in the Name section to display the Name form.

3.Enter your nickname in the preferred field, such as “First” or “Middle” if the nickname is a variation of your real first or last name. For example, if your real first name is Elizabeth, and you prefer “Beth," you can delete your full name in the first field and replace it with "Beth" (without the quotes).

4.Click the “Display as” drop-down list and then click or tap the preferred identity format.

5.Enter the nickname in the “Alternate name” field if preferred. Click or tap the check box to add a tick for “Include this on my timeline” if you want to display the name there in addition to your real name. This area is frequently used by women to list their maiden names, but it is just as useful for listing nicknames.

6.Enter your Facebook password in the “Password” field. Click or tap “Save Changes.” Facebook may take up to 24 hours to confirm the change.

If you opt for the alternate name to display on your Timeline, then both your alternate and real names show in search lists and friend requests.
Facebook may request to verify your account when you update your Timeline with a new alternate name.
Facebook allows you to change your name only a few times.
