5 steps to secure your Facebook account login
Secure your Facebook account against unwanted guests

Social networks have become an integrated part of our lives. Facebook is not just a simple communication channel anymore but an important source of daily news, information about brands, as well as a selling platform. Thanks to mobile apps, we access it everywhere and anytime we want. As active consumers we should take even better care of our security while using the service.
How to set up a secure login for your Facebook account
1. Set up double verification, or so called Login Approvals to achieve your desired security level during the login process. Every time you login into your account, Facebook will send you a newly generated code via SMS to enter to finish login process. Login approval will allow you to better control who can access your account. Detailed instructions how to set it up can be found here.
2. Select so-called trusted contacts. This should be three or four people, who can be contacted by Facebook, in case access to your account is blocked. The selected person will be given an access code, which should be passed to you, so you can restore your account credentials. Therefore choose trusted contacts carefully, so you can easily get in touch in case it’s needed. In order to choose trusted contacts go to Settings -> Security and select friends. If you want to learn more about this setting go here.
3. Set up Login alerts, to be notified in case Facebook spots a suspicious login attempt to your account; for example from an unknown computer or smartphone. A login alert will be delivered to you as a text message, email, or Facebook notification. You decide which format is the most suitable for you. In case you suspect that someone tried to break into your account, Facebook will help you to reset your password and set up a new one. Just as other safety settings you will find login alerts in the Security section. Detailed instructions can be found here.
4. Protect yourself from Phishing and Spam. Cybercrooks try to take over your personal data and login, by creating URLs which look just like Facebook. Please bear in mind that the social network will never send you an email, requesting your credentials or any other personal or financial data. In case you receive such an email, redirecting you to a webpage deceptively resembling Facebook, never ever submit your data. Learn more about Phishing on Facebook here.
On the other hand, if your friends spam you with suspicious messages, or simply bother you with invitations to the “farm games”, it’s possible that they became victims of a malicious app. It can post on their behalf without their knowledge and spread malwarefurther. You can report it to the social network by clicking on the arrow symbol in the right top corner next to the message. Read more in Spams on Facebook section.
5. Last but not least, secure your Facebook mobile app. If, like other millions of Facebook users, you access the social network on mobile, you should consider installing an application that will block the access to Facebook. This is handy in case your mobile is lost or for simply preventing your friends from joking around and posting something on your behalf, while you leave your smartphone unattended.

It is important because I am developing a fb app in which users email is a must. Or is it possible to signup with an email id later remove that id from account?

Why can Facebook be used for?
As one of the premier social media sites, Facebook has plenty to offer. It can be used to keep in touch with old friends online, or perhaps to meet new friends. The website houses not only individuals but also groups, and pages devoted to companies, common interests and more: it is easy to find someone with a similar outlook.
Does it cost anything to use Facebook?
No. The site and all of its services are free to use. All a user needs is an e-mail address, and they will be ready to start an account.
Is it safe to use Facebook?
While the site strives to provide a secure service, as with all websites that deal in confidential information, it is the target of scammers and phishers who try to obtain passwords and other such data from users. The site is for the most part safe, but as with everywhere on the Internet, users should remain vigilant.
How does Facebook's "wall" work?
Every user who registers an account will be given their own wall. Here, they can post messages, and receive replies from friends; they can also share other members' posts onto your wall, or onto their friends' walls. In addition, every page on the site has a wall of its own, while groups have collective walls for all members to use. Alongside the private message function, the wall is one of the main means of communication on the site.
Can Facebook be put to professional use?
Yes, it is commonplace for companies or individual professionals to use the site as a means of promoting their business or staying in touch with customers. The site offers step-by-step instructions on creating a page for a business or service.
Does Facebook have an app?
Yes, there is an app that allows the social media site and its functions to be used quickly and easily from a mobile device. In addition, a separate app allows mobiles to make full use of Facebook's messenger service.
What kind of pages can be found on Facebook?
Facebook pages are generated by the site's vast username, and so encompass a wide range of subjects. Pages cover favourite books, films and TV shows, along with celebrities, political causes, hobbies and even types of food. Some pages are officially tied to their subjects, while others are unofficial and set up by enthusiasts.
Does Facebook collect information about its users?
Yes, the website collects information about its users, although it is vague about exactly what data it collects. This information is used for the purposes of targeted advertising. Any user concerned about the process is advised to consider what information they submit.
What is the minimum age for using Facebook?
The site's guidelines say that a user should be at least 13 years old before joining. However, the site offers a Messenger Kids app, designed for use by younger children, with a simpler interface and additional safety rules.
Can a Facebook account be deleted?
Yes. If for one reason or another a user has grown tired of the site and wishes to leave, deleting their account will e simple and straightforward.

Yes, something is wrong there. wpForo FB login doesn't have any issue on Android devices. I only see an issue on your website. First it tries to load (I see Facebook blue loading image) then something stops it.
I'm sorry but this is something we are not able to debug. You should disable plugins, change the theme to find the problem maker. make sure there is no other 3rd party Facebook API loaded in your website. Maybe you have FB SDK duplication.
Also I recommend create a fresh WP installation in subDirectory or in subFolder with default WP theme, only install wpForo and configure the API with new keys. Then test it.
In case you want to say thank you !)

Time to ditch the Facebook login: If customers' data should be protected, why hand it over to Zuckerberg? • The Register
Mark Zuckerberg recently endured a grilling from the US Congress over Facebook's inability to stop bleeding user data. A week later, investors rewarded his company with a $50bn increase in its market capitalisation on news that – surprise! – a massive userbase pays big dividends.

But it's worse than 87 million users' data that was "improperly obtained" from Facebook by GSR, part of which was later licensed by Cambridge Analytica.

Sure, Cambridge Analytica got the headlines, but there's a less reported side to Facebook data sharing. That is, when companies – retailers, travel sites, banks, media and a plethora of apps – invite you to take the oh-so-simple and hassle-free step of logging into their application or service using your Facebook credentials.
Convenience for a price

Of course, the reason we use things like Facebook Login is convenience, both for the site developer and the end user. Rather than create a user name and password for every random website, developers can simply piggyback on Facebook's (or Google's) generosity.

For its part, Facebook will happily tell you why it's a great idea for developers. Take Skyscanner, for example: "Using Facebook's Analytics for Apps cohort analysis, the team improved their onboarding messages for new launches based on the 'first launch to search' patterns of their cohorts, thus increasing Facebook logins by 2X."
Or maybe not. If you're a consumer, it can become unwieldy to detangle from the social login morass. As Baratunde Thurston puts it: "If I never used Twitter again, I'd still be a Twitter user, because the company is like the school janitor with a fat ring of jangling keys to various doors in my online life."

Facebook is the most-used social login tool by far, with far more "jangling keys" just waiting for some hacker to infiltrate, even long after you've used Facebook Login.

If you're a retailer like Safeway, for example, and you use Facebook Login, you're not only using Facebook to authenticate users, you're giving all that user data back to Facebook – and Facebook's partners. Does Facebook really need to know that your customer likes to order merguez sausage on Fridays and beer and ice cream on Tuesdays? Nope.

What about its "partners"? Definitely not. But will they? Oh yes. In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook now assures us that it is going to limit how much data its partners get (user's name, profile photo, and email address upfront, with access to Facebook posts upon further permission), will restrict access to a user's data once they stop using the partner's app, and will have to get Facebook's permission for additional information.

While this sounds good, it's not clear how Facebook actually plans to audit its partners to ensure compliance, and beyond saying the partners "will sign a contract", it's not really clear how tight the restrictions will be anyway. This is, after all, Facebook, and a strict focus on user privacy is hardly what it's known for.

Additionally, while Facebook claims to be tightening access to personal data for its partners, there's apparently no limit on its own appetite. How Facebook will use that data – perhaps to enrich a profile and then serve ads from a competitor? – is a black box to the businesses using Facebook Login, and an even "blacker box" for consumers.

Not to worry. It gets worse.
Sneaking in the Facebook Login front door

Researchers Steven Englehardt, Gunes Acar and Arvind Narayanan recently published a report saying how Facebook Login (and its Google equivalent) are a honey pot for "the exfiltration of personal identifiers". The Reg covered it here.

As the report explains:

When a user grants a website access to their social media profile, they are not only trusting that website, but also third parties embedded on that site. We found seven scripts collecting Facebook user data using the first party's Facebook access... Most of them grab the user ID, and two grab additional profile information such as email and username.

The user ID collected through the Facebook API is specific to the website... which would limit the potential for cross-site tracking. But these app-scoped user IDs can be used to retrieve the global Facebook ID, user's profile photo, and other public profile information, which can be used to identify and track users across websites and devices.

The researchers also note that "hidden third-party trackers can also use Facebook Login to deanonymize users for targeted advertising". While a privacy violation, these hidden trackers can get away with it "when the same tracker is also a first party that users visit directly".

According to the researchers, the unintended exposure of Facebook data to third parties is not due to a bug in Facebook's Login feature but rather the lack of security boundaries between the first-party and third-party scripts in today's web.

Facebook has called scraping of Facebook data a "direct violation of our policies". It said it would investigate the issues raised by the research but, just to be careful, a spokesperson said:

We have taken immediate action by suspending the ability to link unique user IDs for specific applications to individual Facebook profile pages, and are working to institute additional authentication and rate limiting for Facebook Login profile picture requests.

While a good move, it feels a bit whack-a-mole. Facebook only reacts to security holes, rather than proactively making it harder to exploit its lax approach.

As just one example, Facebook doesn't always read the terms and conditions imposed by its partners, as it revealed in Parliamentary hearings. Do you really think it is going to instigate deep investigations to ensure the partners that feed it data are in turn respecting user data? It's not likely to bite the hand that feeds it.
Getting out of lazy mode

However, the real question is whether businesses have an obligation to stop shovelling data into Facebook through the medium of Login.

Yes, it is convenient, but having learned that Cambridge Analytica hoovered personal data on 87 million Facebook users and the possible political uses of that data, the discussion must be had as to whether factors other than convenience should be the primary driver.

Yes, businesses risk losing user engagement: no one really wants to create another username/password for a site they may not visit more than once or a handful of times. Asking them to do so, rather than piggybacking on Facebook or Google, introduces risk of them churning.
