My friend request icon disappeared on facebook|
If someone does not accept my friend request on Facebook, why does the 'Add Friend' button disappear on his/her profile? When will I be able to send a friend request again?

Well , you won't be able to send friend request again to that person. Because that person blocked you from sending request. There could be many reasons for that, I don't want to go into details.
It won't appear again unless the receipent cancels the request you have sent however you can cancel the sent friend request and resend .
How to Check sent friend requests on Facebook

You can set your Facebook settings where people cannot friend you. You may even be able to do it for specific people.
This happened to me and I asked my friend and he didn't even realize his was set up that way.
