How to Change Your Facebook Page Name

How To Rename My Facebook Page
Want to change your Facebook Page name?
The good news is you can – probably.
This is better than a few years ago, when the answer was never, no way, not for any reason.
Now it’s quite easy to change your Fan Page name. But – Facebook will have to approve your name change.
You can only change once.
A reader has offered a hack even if you’ve already changed your name once. See end of post – caution is advised.

NOTE: When I speak of Page name, I mean the Title of your Page, as overlaid on your Cover Photo. This will NOT change your Facebook Page URL (web address). Check here for how to change your Facebook Page URL and important cautions about doing so.
Changing your Page name is a BIG deal – it must be done right – you can never change it again (through normal channels, anyway). Please read this entire page carefully!
How to Change Your Facebook Page Name

Logged in as an Admin of the Page you wish to change, click Aboutunder your cover photo. You should be on the Page Info tab. Click it in the left sidebar if necessary.
Hover the Name section and click the blue Edit pencil that pops up to the right.
Fill in the name you’re SURE you want (WARNING! Cannot be undone or changed more than ONE time!).
Then scroll to the bottom and click Continue.

Check your spelling again. Once you click Request Change, your request will go to Facebook for approval.
If You Don’t See the Option to Edit Your Page’s Name
You don’t have a Page role that allows you to change your Page’s name. Learn how to see your Page role.
You or another admin recently changed your Page’s name.
This option isn’t currently available in your location. source

See below for another possibility.
No Edit Pencil? Here’s What Worked for Me

I changed my Page Name in 2013, so I don’t know if this option is still available. But I’m leaving it here so you can try it. Let me know!

If you’ve never changed your Page name, but still don’t see the Edit pencil, try changing your Page category to Brands & Products or Companies & Organizations, and click Save Changes. The Request Change link should magically appear!

Now click Request Change and fill out the form (sample below).
Note that you have a choice of reasons for the Page Name change request.
If you select that your business name has changed, you will almost certainly be required to provide documentation. Logos, business cards, and websites are not acceptable.
You can choose “Other” and explain in the text area.
My first choice was to change my Page name to match my website: How-To Social Media Graphics, and explain in “Other” that my business had evolved. I decided that had a high risk of being rejected.
I chose to request a very similar name to my then-current Louise Myers Graphic Design: Louise Myers How-To Graphics. I then selected “My Page name is misspelled” as the best option. (Don’t even ask how long I deliberated over this!)

Note: Hyphens (as shown in the screen shot) are no longer allowed in Facebook Names – either Page or personal profile.

Before submitting your Page name change request be 100% certain of 2 things:
This is the Page name you want for the life of your Page. At this time, just ONE change is allowable.
Your Fan page is 100% compliant with Facebook Terms of Service. Your Page could be shut down once it’s scrutinized by Facebook. Click with caution!

Upload any pertinent documentation, and click Send.
Wait to Hear from FB on Your Page Name Change Request

You should get an auto-reply quickly. I can’t say how long it will take for Facebook to review your request and respond – the auto-reply says up to 3 days. For me it only took one day plus a half hour. And it was approved!

Edit Name Of Facebook Page
Edit Name Of Facebook Page

How I changed my Facebook Business Page Name
I started a Facebook page for my business many years ago. I had spent thousands of dollars running ad campaigns and gaining likes. My business was part of a worldwide franchise, so I was using their brand in my Facebook Page Name (which I recommend you don’t do, I found out it can be hard to change!).
When branching out on my own, I wanted to keep the page, and the thousands of followers I had gained through my campaigns and years of running my business. I thought it would be simple enough, follow the Facebook Help instructions and simply request a name change.
Here are the instructions on Facebook to change your page name.
How do I change my Page’s name?

You’ll need to be an admin to request a change to your Page’s name.
To request a change to your Page’s name:
Click About on the left side of your Page
Click Edit Page Info
Enter a new Page name and click Save Changes
Review your request and click Request Change
Seems simple enough, right?

I soon found out… not so simple!
Every time I requested a new name, it would be rejected. After 3 attempts I decided to reach out to my network of professionals in the digital marketing/web space and even they were not sure what to do. Facebook make it extremely hard to change your page name, and even harder to contact someone to find out why!

I turned to Google for answers and I found all sorts of info on the web…

In the e-web marketing blog they say;

“Unfortunately it’s not as simple as that. In fact, for those of us with over 200 ‘likes’, changing your Facebook Page name is not an easy task. The Facebook Help Centre doesn’t provide much assistance either, with the only answer to changing your name being that, well, you can’t. This is clearly a big problem for businesses that have spent time and effort building their fan base. Indeed, many businesses I have spoken to have had to create an entirely new page from scratch and while they can ask existing fans to ‘like’ the new page, the conversion rate of an attempt such as that is slim”

I came across another article on the www.paperstreet.com blog.

The title of the article and the very first sentence had me hooked!

It’s easier than you think

“Updating information on your Twitter and Facebook page is generally pretty easy”

only to be disappointed as a read on that this person didn’t have the secret formula either!

“Changing your business name on your Facebook page usually requires approval from Facebook before it can take effect. Your claim may be denied if the proposed new name is not close enough to the current name or violates any of their page guidelines. If your Facebook page has not been used and has very few likes, the easiest thing may be to create a new page with the new name. However, this is never recommended for active pages with a large amount of likes and engagement.

For more information on how to change your page name, check out Facebook’s support section.”

Well that was disappointing!

I had resigned myself to the fact that they were not going to let me change the name of my page and I decided to just start over. I set up a new Facebook Page using my new company name, it was disappointing but I didn’t think I had any other options.
A Breakthrough!

Although I had already set up a new page and I was migrating my followers from my old Facebook page to my new Facebook page as best as I could (not easy). I decided it was still worthwhile to try and work out how to change the name of my previous page, as I could still benefit from the years of hard work, not to mention the money I had spent gaining likes.

I am not one to give up easily so I started doing more research, I even contacted other Facebook page owners that had successfully changed their name, only to learn that they had gone through weeks of rejection and had no ‘secret formula’. It just seemed that they lucked it!

I just kept trying different names, and then one day… it happened. They allowed the change! I have no idea why, I cannot tell you what the secret formula was, all I can say is that sometimes persistence pays off.

I recommend you just keep making requests until you get approved. Of course, you will need to come up with a dozen or so acceptable new names, so you can try different variations.

As the saying goes, “The squeaky wheel gets the oil” and in my case, I think my repetitive requests is what got me the name change in the end. Hopefully you don’t have to put in as many requests as I did (9 in total) but if that what it takes I guess it’s what you’ll have to do! Good Luck

Facebook is disabling messaging in its mobile web app to push people to Messenger
Facebook is removing the messaging capability from its mobile web application, according to a notice being served to users: “Your conversations are moving to Messenger,” it reads. Welcome news to the millions like me who switched to the web app in order to avoid Messenger in the first place!

At the moment, you can just dismiss the notice and go about your business. But this summer the warning will become an impenetrable wall, and your only option will be to download the official Messenger app.

I’m a little worried about this, because surely the mobile site is much used by people who have good reason not to download the app. People whose phones don’t have official clients, for instance, or who can’t upgrade to the latest version of an OS, and must access via the web.

And really, it strikes me as quite a hostile move, as it did before when they axed messaging from the main app. If, as everyone in the company is constantly repeating, mantra-like, that they want to connect the world, shouldn’t a diversity of access options be part of that?

The usual excuse, which I am expecting to receive at any moment from Facebook PR, whom I contacted for details, is that the company wants to provide the best possible experience in messaging, and the Messenger app is the platform on which they’ve chosen to provide it — so to avoid confusion they’re consolidating everyone there. (Update: that’s totally the statement I got, it even said “best experience”)

I don’t think a single person has ever bought that particular load of horsefeathers. It’s pretty plain for anyone to see that it’s easy to embellish, enrich and, of course, monetize a powerful platform like Messenger, while it’s near-impossible to do so with basic text-based chat.

In other words, one service provides valuable utility to users, but not to Facebook. Can’t have that!

There are differences in the core experiences of the desktop and mobile versions of Facebook — that’s okay! It’s perfectly fine that posts look different, you interact with things differently and certain features are absent or less easily accessed. This should be the case with messaging. Just offer plain text chat, for god’s sake, and quit it with this reach creep. Your users will thank you, and it’s really not going to hurt Messenger’s growth.

By all means, advertise Messenger on top of the message feed, or point out that some content will be missing. Messenger is more full-featured! You can do video, and stickers! Look, chatbots! But the decision to switch should be the user’s. By removing that agency, Facebook erodes a trust it should be tending to carefully.

Facebook company page

How to Make a Facebook Page for Your Small Business
If you own a small business, having a Facebook page lets you reach individuals among the 750 million or so users worldwide who are most likely to be interested in your company. Your interaction on the social network gives customers the sense thatthey know you and your business, which can increase loyalty and make them more likely to recommend your services.

On Facebook you can easily add features that are harder to implement on your website. You can build a custom page, run contests and promotions, and manage a small e-commerce shop. Plus, Facebook is free. Even if you pay for custom applications or a developer's services, it remains a form of advertising with a small price tag.

[Also see: How to Promote and Maintain Your Facebook Business Page][ Further reading: The best TV streaming services ]

The potential reach of a Facebook page is huge, as half of its users log in every day. Facebook studies show that people interact with their favorite brands on Facebook more than on any other social network, are more likely to recommend a brand after becoming a fan of it on Facebook, and are more likely to purchase a product after becoming a fan. In addition, anyone outside Facebook can view your Facebook page because search engines index it.
Establishing Your Profile and Page Admins

Before creating your Facebook fan page, you must establish a personal Facebook profile. The individual in that profile is the creator of the fan page. As a result, the subsequent Facebook business page doesn't have a separate login from that of the individual user who created it.A Facebook page can help you interact more with customers than a website can.

Many people are nervous about mixing their personal information with their business information, but the two are conceptually separate. You'll interact with the business page as the business, and on your personal profile as yourself. Only administrators and the owner of the page can see other page admins. Thus, when I interact on my Facebook page, (Anti) Social Development, I post as that company and not as Kim Woodbridge. People who interact with my company page don't see my personal profile.

If you aren't going to be the only person working on your business's Facebook page, you'll need to select admins. To do this, fill in the appropriate data in the 'Edit Page' section under 'Manage Admins'. The admins either must be Facebook friends of yours, or must be identified by the email address they use for Facebook.

The admins you designate won't need your login to access the page, and once they log in as admins, they'll have access to page-editing features. For example, I'm an admin on a number of business pages and can access all of them by logging into Facebook, so I don't need anyone else's login data.

Be careful, however, to add only people you trust as admins. Any admin can remove any other admin, even the owner of the page--a structural flaw that Facebook needs to address. If you add a developer or other person to work on your page temporarily, I recommend removing that person from admin status as soon as the job is done.

Facebook does offer what it calls a business account, but this option is very limited and I don’t recommend it. A business account doesn’t allow you to install Facebook apps, so you can’t add a custom page made with iframes or third-party tools, as discussed throughout this article. For that reason, I don't recommend using a business account.
Creating a Facebook Page

From your Facebook profile page, click the Pages header in the left-side navigation. Next, click the Create a Page button, and select the type of page--Local Business or Place, for example, or Brand or Product. You'll see a number of fields to fill out, such as your business category, name, and address. One of the early steps of creating a business page on Facebook is to choose your business type.

Next, click the Get Started button, and Facebook will guide you through the rest of the setup process, step by step. If you skip any of those steps, you can fill them out later on a new page in the Facebook Welcome section, which only page admins will see.
Information to Include

When Facebook walks you through the initial steps, it will request information about your business--a logo for the page avatar, details for the About section, contact information and hours, and the URL of your website.

If you want Facebook to pull in your blog posts automatically, an application such as Networked Blogs can help. Each time you publish a new post to your blog, Networked Blogs will import the post and add it to the Wall of your Facebook business page.

Among the Facebook applications that come with your page by default are Photos, Links, Events, Notes, and Video. You can't remove the default applications, but you can set them not to appear in the left-side page navigation.

After completing the first steps, you'll want to customize the public appearance of your Facebook page with a design appropriate for your business.

How to create a facebook welcome page and get more fans

If you’ve read a few of my articles in the past not only are you a total legend but you are also probably aware that I give Zuckers and his team a bit of a hard time for their incessant changes that are mostly poorly communicated and largely useless.

However there are rare occasions where they do something that is pretty awesome and/or exciting and that actually makes our lives easier. These occasions are worth celebrating, talking about, writing about and overall obsessing over due to the fact they are so completely unexpected. The problem is that they are STILL poorly communicated and normal plebs who don’t devote 90% of their day to reading about social media (Ok so maybe 10% reading about it and 80% chatting on facebook) tend to miss the boat.

That is where I come in. To use one million words to explain to you something that probably ten could do, but explain it nonetheless. So here’s my latest heroic facebook information session for all of you who own a facebook page (and as I’ve outlined in my previous post about managing a facebook page, you are pretty much a loser if you don’t).
In order to reach the million words, I wish to start with a bit of a story. Once upon a time there was an evil social networking-creating genius (let’s call him Zuckers) who created the world’s biggest and most lucrative digital network. He marvelled over how easy it was to get hundreds of millions of people to hand over all their personal information and be part of this network. It was all so easy for him, despite the fact some doofkopf twins were trying to take him for all he was worth, just when he was starting to land some seriously fine ass from the whole rich and famous thing.

Anyway, because of the evil part, he decided he wanted to try and mess with these people and at the same time make it difficult for others to capitalise on his creation without putting in some serious time and effort. This is where he came up with the creation of FBML, a coding language that developers were required to learn if they wished to do anything on HIS network. It was a pain in the arse and led to nobody doing much of anything, other than whingeing.

THEN Zuckers had a particularly pleasing night at the playboy mansion and decided that maybe he would make life a little less difficult for the trillions of facebook users who were still hating on him from the latest facebook profile update. He decided he would scrap his stupid network-exclusive code FBML and let people use iFrames and HTML instead. This opened up an entirely new world for people and businesses far and wide, and one of these opportunities was the ability to create a landing tab / welcome page for facebook pages relatively easily.
